29. SECOND AUNT WAS INJURED

That horrible night in May 1968 was unforgettable. When we were soundly sleeping the big sounds of explosion and shooting woke us up. We started running out of the house to a shelter that was dug outside in the open space in the farm. The shelter had no cover so we could look up onto the sky which was brightened up by blast and flying from the cannons and rockets. It was very scary scene to look at.
When the sounds died down we went back to our houses and continued sleeping. Then I found out that second aunt was injured by the explosion from the rocket right on their roof the next day. She heard the noisy shooting and explosion so she sat up from her bed. My uncle was also got out of bed. Then she felt it hurt with her little toe and wet too. She turned on the light and it was shocked to see her little toe was covered with blood and the whole bed was covered with small metals from the explosion from the rocket. If both of them did not sit up on time they must be killed or severely injured by those scattered tiny metals.
It was curfew at night so she had to stop the bleeding, to take care of the wound and to suffer from it until the next morning when my uncle sent her to the hospital and evacuated the whole family including my siblings to my third aunt’s house. I had to look after the hatchers and chicks so I was left behind with the maid, my eldest brother and my uncle.
It was just a minor injury but it took her months to get recovered. She could not wear high heel dressing shoes but sandal to cripple to work after the crisis was over. It was considered unlucky to be wounded but lucky to be alive.

29．二婶受伤

一九六八年五月的一个晚上，正在熟睡的我们，给很多、很大的爆炸声音闹醒。在恐惧、慌乱中，起床，跑到户外去，跳进一个小凹洞去。那个小坑是父亲给我们挖的，来躲避炮火。蹲在洞里抬头，往天空上望去，看到整个天空都在闪亮，由爆炸所导致，也看到火箭炮的飞驰。景色非常的可怕。
过了好久，炮声好像没那么厉害，我们才敢回去房子里，继续地睡觉去。第二天早上， 才得知二婶在昨晚的炮轰中受伤。听到响亮的炮火声，两夫妇起床，打算跑到户外去。突然，二婶感觉到小趾有点痛、也好像有点湿，把电灯打开，发现小趾盖满鲜血，床铺盖满碎片，才知道自己给碎片击伤。假如，他们俩还躺在床上，那就不得了，肯定会受重伤或者致死。
当时，夜间实行宵禁、戒烟，居民不能够外出。二婶，要给伤口止血，忍痛，等天亮。然后，二叔把她送到医院去，也把全部家人，包括我的姐妹们，送到姑姑家去。我要留下，因为，要打理孵化机和照料小鸡。女佣人、大哥、二叔也留下看守家园。
二婶的受伤不算很严重，但是，都要几个月后，才能够痊愈。事后，她不能够穿高跟鞋上班去，而要穿平底凉鞋，一步一步，一瘸一拐，地走路。有惊无险，只受轻伤，全家平安，能够保住生命，可算不幸中的大幸。
