28. SECOND ATTACK IN MAY 1968

After having been able to live happily, joyfully, peacefully with my family for three months the communist guerilla started another offensive uprising campaign in May again. Rockets, cannons were shot into the capital from the outskirt and the hidden guerilla inside the city started their attack as well. The actual fighting was going on in different spots within the city. Schools and businesses had to be closed. The whole city was under the battle alert. The areas that were occupied by the guerrilla had to be evacuated. Our farm got hit by rocket and second aunt was injured. My third aunt, father’s sister lived in the center of the city where it was safe and undisturbed by the attack. She and her family were very generous and had empathy on all the relatives who came asking for help. They not only gave them shelters but free meals as well.
The capital which used to be the safest one was in danger. My dad sent a driver to his sister’s house to pick up my siblings to his small town. The house that we lived in had to be abandoned. I went back to live with my second uncle’s family. The Vietnamese army with the back up from the USA army had to fight very hard to defeat the communist guerrilla out of the capital. It was long battle for weeks. It was scary when night fell because of the rockets which used to explode at the civilian area if there was error in the calculation of the shooting. We had to live in horror.
For our safety my third aunt, mom’s sister with a driver who drove the car to Saigon to pick up her mom, her father in law and me per requested from my father to the small city, Lomg Xuyen where her husband was working and her family was living. I stayed there for a few days and then dad sent another driver to pick me up and drove me to the small city where my family was living. I had to run away from the fighting for one more time.

28。一九六八年五月再次发动攻击


跟家人，快快乐乐地度过了三个月的温馨家庭生活，共军在五月份，再次发动攻击。从附近的郊区，把火箭炮、大炮，射进首都去。在市内埋藏的游击队，也开始他们的攻势。战斗，就在市内的不同地区进行。全市停顿，一片混乱，紧密戒备。有游击队埋藏的地区，市民要疏散，让国家军队彻底清除捣乱份子。鸡场不幸地受到大炮射中，二婶受轻伤。姑姑的家在市中心，没有受到任何战火的干扰。大家就要跑到哪儿去避难。姑姑、姑丈，很有怜悯的心，把全部前来的亲戚都收容下，也很慷慨地免费供应食物给他们。
首都应该是一个最安全的地方，变成了战场，最危险的地方。得知后，父亲马上派司机前来首都，把姐弟妹们接回去他们所居住的小城市去。刚建立的家，要面临破碎。我要回去寄居在二叔的家。越军和美军联手，跟越共游击队，激烈地交战，有几个星期之多。终于，越军又再次战胜，把共军打退，逼使他们回到郊区去躲藏起来。
在战斗时期，人心彷徨，没有安全感。没有一个晚上，可以睡得好，经常要在恐惧中度过，因为，入黑之后，大炮、火箭炮，会不断地爆炸。目的是政府机构和军事部门，但是，若计算错了，回落在无辜的民区，造成伤亡、死亡。三姨，居住在Long Xuyen小城市，不放心在西贡的母亲和老公的父亲，特地带同司机一起来接他们回去。考虑到我的安全问题，父亲也拜托她，把我接回去。在三姨家居住了几天之后，父亲派司机来把我接到他居住的小城市去，跟家人团聚。我又再次要逃难了。
